Start a new relationship with food: Alkalize your body consciously

Have you ever thought of how you relate to the food that you take? Have you realized its role in your life? Popular blogger Leo Babauta talks of the “pretty intimate” relationship we have with food. He notes in his blog Zen Habits that we use food not just for fueling our bodies, but for almost everything – it is used for pleasure, comfort, for socializing, as a reward, as a gift and above all, food is the center of billion-dollar food industries. In fact, we take food not just for bodily sustenance, but even mental and spiritual well being. Indeed, food occupies an almost omnipresent status in our lives.

If food is an answer to many things we do, think how careful we should be when we take it to charge our bodies. Toxification of the body occurs when food consumed is acidic or leaves acidic ash in the blood stream. Though there are hundreds of methods teaching detoxification, it is better to stop taking toxic foods right from the beginning than going for a detox or master cleanse later.

Perils of acidic foods:
Acidic foods harm you more than you think. They do not just upset your pH balance, but even the vital organs of your body. The liver and the kidney are the two main organs highly affected by acidic food. In order to protect these organs, the body restores your pH at a higher cost – a host of diseases and detrimental conditions like obesity, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, clogging of arteries etc. The most perilous thing is the drop in pH value below 7. It can lead to mental malfunctioning, result in coma and even death. This is why alkalizing your body is indispensable for overall health and longer lifetime. Even foods that are thought to be alkaline can leave an acid residue in your body. So, you ought to be careful in your choice of foods.

Alkalize consciously: Alkalize your body consciously. There is no point in relying on your organic food habits and imagining yourself to be high on alkaline content. You can be fooled if the alkaline foods that your take are processed by chemicals and leave acidic ash in your blood stream. So, alkalize consciously, step by step. To alkalize your body, your food should contain 80% of alkaline diet and 20% of acid diet as 4:1 is the ideal alkaline acid balance ratio for sound health.

Alkaline Foods: Below are a list of alkaline foods that you should consciously include in your diet daily. If you do this properly, in due course of time, your body’s alkaline reserves will improve and be able to help in times of emergency (say, if you go on a junk food weekend with friends).

VEGETABLES: Vegetables like Wheatgrass, Alfalfa, Barley, Asparagus, Broccoli, Beetroot, Carrot, Cereley, Cauliflower, Ccumber, Garlic, Mushrooms, sprouted pulses, Onion, Lettuce, Peas, Pepper, Pumpkin are high in alkaline content.

FRUITS: Apple, Avocado, Lemon, Grape, Banana, Cherries, Grapefruit, Watermelon, Peach, Pear, Orange, Tomato – are rich alkaline fruits.

OTHER FOODS: Spices like chillies, pepper, cinnamon, ginger, mustard; Apple cider vinegar, bee pollen, green and herbal tea; Almonds, Chestnuts and other foods are a great way to alkalize your body.
